Kintsugi of the Soul: Healing the Body's Hidden Scars
Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, offers a gentle image for how the body can heal from trauma. Rather than hiding the cracks, Kintsugi honours them as part of the object’s history. In somatic therapy, we do something similar: we listen to tension, numbness, and activation as meaningful signals, not defects. With time, care, and support, the nervous system can reorganize, and the places that once felt broken can become sites of strength, dignity, and new connection.
